The Best Pen Goes To…
I’m a pen geek. I inherited this hobby of collecting pens and all things stationery from my mom. She’s a major fan of fountain pens, which I don’t actually find super appealing due to the necessity of ink. Too many ink blots, too little time, and too much hassle to deal with fountain pens. They look good on a wooden oak desk next to a paper weight, but unless I was a CEO, I don’t see the need for them.
I’ve been Googling best pens since the dawn of time and also have been trying different kind of pens out. Here are my opinions of some of the best of them.
Pilot G-2 (.7mm)
Overall a pretty great pen. I found these silver-gold polka dotted G2 pens in Target, and they were a breeze to use. The ink is clean without blots, it’s easy to write with, and I just really like the feel of them. I prefer .7mm to 0.5 mm currently, but I used to be a fan of spidery, bony writing that could be easily achieved with a 0.5 mm pen. My handwriting with a 0.7 mm pen looks “kinder” (if that makes sense) and neater than with other pens, and it’s a lot more comfortable to read.

Pilot Precise V5
They used to come in a different style that reminded me of a fountain pen, but the current ones I use are jet black and look pretty edgy. Their writing is edgy too due to their sharp point. I feel this pen is more suitable for drawing than for writing. It’s not as comfortable to write with than Pilot G-2.

Pentel RSVP (0.5 or 0.7)
I used to be a big fan of these pens in high school. They’re not as inky as Pilot pens, because they’re ballpoint pens, but I think in the ballpoint genre, Pentel pens rank up there. They’re kind of too dry for my taste, I like my handwriting to be inky (without smudging) and black (these look more black-gray than black). However, they’re less expensive than Pilot or other gel ink pens.

Uniball Signo 207
The best rollerball pens out there. They dry a lot faster than inky gel pens, but they’re not as dry as ballpoint pens. They’re a bit clunkier to hold and not as light weight as Pilot pens. I like using these for filling out forms and signing documents.

Muji gel ink pen
Personally not a huge fan. They’re messy to use, with ink splattering everywhere, and they’re a bit too light weight. I want to like them for their brand and cost, but I don’t tend to use these pens if I have other pens on hand.

There are so many pens out there, and I highly encourage people to check out the stationery aisle of their local pharmacy/drug store to see if there are any better pens in stock than the ones they own already. A good pen makes all the difference. Writing is so much more enjoyable with the right pen in hand.
Cheers!
