10 Ways to Pray

There are many ways to pray. Whether it’s talking to God conversationally to praying the Holy Rosary, there are both spontaneous and structural ways to incorporate prayer into your daily life. Here are 10 ways you can incorporate prayer into your daily life.

  1. Vocal Prayer — Examples include Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Apostle’s Creed. You can also speak prayers out loud or silently in your own words.

  2. Meditative Prayer — You focus your thoughts and heart on God’s Word or mystery. This includes Lectio Divina, which is slow reading of Scripture where you ponder the significance of the words you read and let God’s voice speak to you through the passage.

  3. Contemplative Prayer — You sit in silence for 10 or 20 minutes and focus on God’s voice, the Holy Spirit, words from the Bible. Letting distractions come and go while sitting in God’s presence.

  4. Conversational Prayer — You speak to God candidly as you would a friend — open and honestly.

  5. Rosary — A structured Catholic prayer using beads to meditate on Christ’s life through Mary.

  6. Scriptural Prayer — Using the Scripture as a way of turning verses into personal prayers.

  7. Journaling Prayer — Writing down prayers to verbalize thoughts, gratitudes, struggles, and reflections

  8. Liturgical and Communal Prayer — Joining the Church’s formal prayers and sacraments through the Mass, Liturgy of the Hours.
